GINGER BUG STARTER
Ingredients:
Ginger (organic)
Water
Sugar
Materials:
Jar
Cheese cloths
Preparation:
Cut ginger (unpeeled) in smaller pieces.
Put 3 tablespoons of ginger, 3 tablespoons of sugar and 700 mL of water in the jar and mix it.
Cover the jar with the cheese cloth.
After bubbles appear (around 2 days after), start feeding it daily by adding 1 tablespoon of ginger and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Mix it well.
After 5/7 days, start to feed it every second day. Start adding 1 tablespoon of water.
After a week it is ready to use for beer production.
GINGER BEER
Ingredients:
250 mL ginger bug
5-10 cm organic ginger
357 mL sugar
approx. 4L water
2 lemons
Materials:
Pot
Grater
Strainer
Mechanical cap beer bottles
Preparation:
Boil 2 L of water and add the grated ginger and sugar. Boil for 15 minutes. Cool it down.
Strain the cooled liquid and add juice of the lemons and strained ginger bug.
Add enough water to make 4 litres of liquid.
Fill the beer bottles and let it ferment for about 2 weeks in a warm place.
Suggestion and other recipes:
Cool before serving, it can be used in cocktails.
Fermentation tip:
You can add some herbs in the bottles for different flavours.
